Students in Honors English are writing sonnets and will be sharing them with us. Today, we will read one by Mia Valdez:

The hugs from a mom

The moment I feel mom’s arms around me
all the mess inside my head fades away.
What I want is for that moment to stay.
Mom’s sweet smell and soft voice make me feel free.
to forget my problems, this is the key.
When they’re not here, my life turns to gray.
They’re all I want at the end of the day.
I can’t describe how her hugs bring me glee.

But then, I see one day I will grow
and some problems will no longer be the same.
Sometimes I wish that time could go more slow
‘Cause losing these moments would be a shame.
I guess I need to accept and let things flow
since I can’t keep them as a frame.
